Death By Stoning

Iran has some new laws in the making, which will render death by stoning obsolete. I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that the Iranian government and its larger ruling elite are far behind the peoples social and cultural advance, and a possible attempt to catch up.

The idea is supported by the American persistence to keep the death penalty in their country upright. I have an opinion about American politics, and it is not undividedly positive. The USA has been making a rigorous turn to the right and towards a society that is restrictive to the level of the European 50-ties (and worse) and it is ruled by a murky cluster of high-faluting capitalists and religious zealots, who are deeply rooted in the people.

Say what you want, but I see Iran slightly and cautiously moving towards a freer country. Perhaps this will be a lengthy process and the current country’s power apex will still be around for a while, but be that as it may, indications like abolishing such cruel punishment is an important step into the right direction.

I wonder what the world will look like in another 20 years or so. Will we perceive the USA as some “Axis of Evil”, together with their allies, probably some oil producing countries? Are we seeing an attitude-bascule, slowly changing its slant, moving its position into the opposite angle?

Who knows. I find it all very confusing. The more I read about the middle east and the highly staked power games that surround it, the more confused I get. All this racket is over a few louzy barrels of oil. And the run for resources on the North Pole is still starting up. That looks like an intersting geopolitical prospect. If we, western oilguzzlers, turn our focus away from the middle east, who knows what will happen there.
