I wonder if the upcoming public anti-Semitic policy changes the pope BenDick16 has been implementing are a coincidence. They probably are not, hence leaving us with the question: “What is the rationale of the Catholic Church behind embracing the same rhetorical crap as is uttered by Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?
The holocaust discussion is rearing it’s ugly head again. Did it happen or did it not? Any sane person with a proper education knows it did, and the discussion about this fact is only fired up by attention seeking idiots with a questionable political agenda. So now BenDick16 has sought this attention by rehabilitating a cleric who was first excommunicated because of his “revisionist” leaning, literally denying the holocaust.
So what do we have here…? We have a political world stage where religious extremism seems to gain momentum over the liberal accomplishments which were the results of an emancipation wave that originated in the 1960-ties.
To avoid going into too much detail; in the USA the Saved Again Christians have a sturdy foot in the countries decision making bodies and they are an effective force in politics. A minority of believers is actually getting away with setting the “parameters of life” for a majority of denizens with other, sometimes diametrically opposed, interests. Moderates, modernists and unbelievers are having their lives dictated by a bunch of overzealous faith brokers who actually belong in the middle ages. They have slowly been turning the clock back for the last eight years, and we have to rely on Obama to turn the tide.
In the east, we see our fellow Muslim Planeteers steadily going into the same direction of fundamentalism, with their Sharia law implemented and enforced over the heads of the more moderate, liberty craving people, who want progress and prosperity as opposed to the current suppression and mental poverty. In this neck of the woods, most countries are not democratic and money is pumped out of the ground, so there is no real stimulation for the people to actually develop themselves.
It is maybe a little bit off-topic, but all this would be different of course, if the citizens of oil-rich countries had to pay taxes to their governments. Because in order to pay taxes, the people have to secure incomes, create jobs, show some entrepreneurship and promote mental progress. The democracy-game might be an effective stimulus for the latter as well. But hey, who in the middle east is waiting for an intelligently democratising population, able to assess the political relationships in the country as unfair, unwanted and sure candidates for revolutionary change?
Not the powers that be in any case. Oil has made for a docile and recessive population with little demands for a civilised way of life. The only hope for these poor people lies in the abolition of the oil economy. Sorry for the sidestep here.
All in all, to come back on what I started with, we see a contingent of Catholic top-level decision makers taking some crazy turns in the middle of a global-political context that is unmistakably fundamentalistic. The steps taken by the pope seem anti-Semitic in nature, with the explicit purpose to make a statement. Rehabilitating an anti-Semitic bishop in a time saturated with anti-Semitic Muslim rhetoric and popular sentiment, reeks of a questionable attempt to make friends with the wrong people. Is Pope Benedict XVI sucking up to his Muslim fellow anti-Semites? And if so, why?
Am I paranoid? Maybe, but maybe not. I have seen stranger coalitions being formed, like the one between the fascists and the anarchists in Italy in the 1980-ties. Their only interface was the rejection of democracy and the use of violence.
Besides, the Christians are anti-Semitic by default, because their faith puts in its centre the very idea which is rejected by the Jews, namely: the god-status of Jesus of Nazareth. I reckon the Christians are still very pissed-off by this. And not surprisingly either, for it has been the driving force behind Catholic Jew bashing for a millennium or two.
So what will be next, I wonder…? BenDick16 kissing some high ranking Muslim bum in public? Whatever it will be, it will have a hard time surprising me any more. For me, the notion that both flavours of faith are sufficiently retarded to be thrown onto the scrapheap of history, is enough. Good riddance, I’d say!
